TRAINING SERVICES

behavioural-trainingWe understand that every dog is different and they all have different learning capabilities. Private consultations are a service that is designed specifically to help solve behavioural problems you may be having with your dog in a safe and comfortable environment. There is no such thing as one size fits all. This helps lower the stress when trying to teach your dog either new behaviours or conditioning a new more positive association with something they are unsure of, e.g vacuum, lawn mower, e.t.c. The advantages of a one on one training session, is the entire focus is on you and your furry family member.

One on one Puppy training

In todays hectic society it can be hard to find the time for the whole family to attend a puppy training class. Also, some puppies find it hard to learn in a class environment with all the distractions. If it is inconvenient to come to a class for whatever reason, we come to you for puppy training at a time that best suits you and your family. It is essential for the puppy’s development that everyone in the home is training the same way.

In a 2 hour training session, I will cover

  • toilet training
  • play biting
  • sit, drop
  • loose lead walking
  • leadership and recall.

We will also discuss resource guarding and handling. We will also help you understand how your puppy learns and how best to teach them. All training is done using positive reinforcement methods.

One of the main reasons dogs are left at pounds and shelters is behavioural problems so it is essential for both you and your puppy to start off on the right foot and set the foundation for a well rounded happy dog.

Puppy training is available for puppies aged 8-16 weeks.

One on one, basic obedience:

Basic obedience training consist of the foundation behaviours we all like our dogs to have, they will help give your dog confidence and manners

  • Sit
  • Drop/Down
  • Recall
  • Stay
  • Go to bed
  • Leave it
  • Swap

There will be three sessions, the first session taking 1 ½ hours, the following sessions will be an hour each.

One on one Good manners training

It is just as important that our dogs have good manners as it is for us to have good manners.

Some natural dog behaviours such as:

  • Jumping
  • Excessive barking
  • Toilet training
  • Digging
  • Chewing of furniture e.t.c
  • Pulling on lead
  • Impulse control

Are not acceptable to us humans, but they are fixable, with some consistency and patience.

First session will take approximately 1 ½ hours, a second session will be an hour, (further follow up session amounts will depend on the progress of each dog and owner).

Behavioural Modification training

Behavioural modification training is more complicated than basic obedience training; essentially what we will be doing is changing your dog’s conditioned emotional response to a stimulus. What that means, for example, your dog becomes anxious or stressed every time you put him in the car, or becomes reactive and barks and lunges when they see particular people or dogs. Maybe they become anxious when you leave?

These types of behaviours will not be fixed using basic training or forceful methods, nor will be fixed over night. Their emotional response needs to be adjusted and reinforced.

Behavioural problems such as:

  • Aggression
  • Anxiety
  • Phobias
  • Reactivity
  • Obsessive compulsive behaviours
  • Resource guarding

The initial consult will take 2 hours. Follow ups will be 1 hour. (further follow up session amounts will depend on the progress of each dog and owner)

Puppy Class:

Puppies, Puppies, Puppies!!! The Dog Brigade LOVES puppies.

Getting a new puppy is exciting and fun, it is important though that we start them off on the right paw by taking them to a puppy School. We offer classes in two areas of Sydney. The Eastern Suburbs and the Inner west. We keep our Puppy class small so that all clients and puppies can focus on learning.

Puppy Classes in Sydney Eastern Suburbs at Woollahra Vets on Tuesday nights.

Puppy Class Starting in Sydneys Inner West at Life on The Hedge in Stanmore.

In our 5 week Puppy class we will cover:

  • How dogs learn
  • How to teach your dogs
  • How to grow a confident puppy
  • Body language
  • Handling and co-operatvive vet care
  • What your puppies Behaviour means
  • What is proper socialisation
  • Appropriate dog play
  • Basic cues sit, drop, stay, recall, name recognition, lead walking
  • Teaching puppies to problem solve.

Training classes:

NB: Adult Dog Classes are currently on hold. Contact us for one on one sessions.

Adult Dog classes are for dogs 5 months and older. They are  in 2 parts.

Part 1 is for dogs that have either done puppy school and need a refresher or dogs that have never attended training. During this 5 week program you will learn:

  • How to set the foundations for your dogs learning
  • Clicker training
  • How to read dogs body language
  • Sit, stay, recall, targeting, loose lead walking, eye contact.
  • The beginnings of co-operative handling skills
  • Free shaping
  • Problem solving
  • How to stop jumping
  • Mat training
  • Scent games

Part 2

Part 2 of Adult Dog training will be covering all the behaviours in part 1. In part 2 we proof these behaviours making sure they are solid. When training dogs it is important that the dog learns to do the behaviours under distraction, this makes sure the behaviours are solid. Dogs need to learn to generalise the behaviours you teach so when you ask them for a behaviour in a busy environment they are able to focus on you.

Spaces are limited so contact us to make a booking.

Using scientifically proven reward based training, I will help you achieve a well behaved, happy and most important of all, a confident dog.

* Payment must be made on or before the first session

* 24 hours notice must be given to cancel a session (cancellation fees are applied to late notices)
